WELL-BEING MEETS PRODUCTIVITY
WELL-BEING MEETS PRODUCTIVITY
Ergo Solutions offers evidence-based office ergonomic evaluations for proactive and reactive care to those in Greater Victoria and Southern Vancouver Island. Founded by an occupational therapist, the goal of Ergo Solutions is to support individuals at their workstation by promoting well-being, independence and productivity. This is achieved by the ergonomist visiting the client's place of employment or working environment to review and modify their workstation to address the client's needs (e.g. preventative adjustments or modifications to support an injury).
WorkSafeBC (n.d. -a) states an individual could be at risk of a musculoskeletal injury (i.e. strains and sprains) if their office equipment (e.g. chair, desk, monitor, mouse or keyboard) is not properly adjusted to suit them. The implementation of proper ergonomics can reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries (WorkSafeBC, n.d.-b).
"Ergonomics is the science of fitting occupations to people by applying the knowledge of human physical abilities and limitations to the design of the workplace for efficient and safe use by the user" (Alexander, 2016).
Clients range from the general public (e.g. students and hobbyists) to professionals who perform desk work.
Proactive/preventative care to reduce potential workplace injuries and promote well-being.
Reactive care to assist in managing health conditions or injuries to promote independence and participation.
Ergonomic evaluations of clients' workstations can occur, but are not limited to:
Public office buildings
Private home offices
Scientific laboratories
Customer service environments
Without proper ergonomics, the following outcomes are common (Alexander, 2016):
Lower productivity
Lower quality of work
Increased absenteeism
Injuries
The ergonomist visits the client to assess the client interacting with their workstation. The ergonomist will adjust the client's workstation and make any required equipment recommendations to meet the client's needs.
